From field to shelf: school visit at Derby
At Derby Group, we are delighted to support educational processes and provide young people with insight into a real-world working environment. In April, we hosted students from Vič Primary School at our distribution center in BTC Ljubljana.
From tropical plantations to ripening in Ljubljana
The purpose of the visit was to introduce students to the complexity of the logistics chain that ensures fresh fruit is available to consumers every day. During the guided tour, the seventh-graders learned about key processes:
- The journey of bananas – They learned where and how bananas are grown and how they travel from distant tropical plantations to our center.
- Ripening technology – they toured specialized ripening rooms where fruit reaches optimal ripeness under precise supervision.
- Storage and distribution – they discovered the logistical challenges of handling sensitive goods and the various professional profiles that ensure the company’s smooth operation.
Corporate social responsibility as a foundation of sustainable strategy
Through visits like these, we strengthen the transparency of our operations and fulfill our commitment to actively supporting the environment in which we operate. Social responsibility is one of the key pillars of our sustainability strategy, through which we encourage community development and support local initiatives for general well-being.
At Derby Group, we view sustainability as a continuous process of improvement. By acting responsibly toward nature and respecting people, we ensure the ethical integrity of the entire chain—from field to shelf. We believe that events like this promote a healthy lifestyle and maintain a strong connection with the local environment.
Thank you to the students and teachers of Vič Primary School for the visit and the excellent questions!
